These photographs are an attempt at capturing the diversity of plastic foam that can be found in the Upper Mississippi River. They illustrate what happens to foam after it has served its intended use and enters the environment. From expanded polystyrene cups and bead board to strange spray foam forms this material is as abundant as shells or driftwood. In the anthropocene it is a new natural material. All the foam was collected from the Mississippi River in Minneapolis Minnesota from 2016 to 2018.
